Judith Durham’s astonishing voice was the spark that ignited the talents of her Seekers bandmates Athol Guy, Keith Potger, and Bruce Woodley.
Judith had been singing with Melbourne jazz bands before she joined The Seekers. They were Australia’s first big international music success, and the whole country got behind them. At the height of their fame, 200,000 people turned up to see them at Melbourne’s Myer Music Bowl – that was 10 per cent of the city’s population at the time.
Judith was a classically trained singer and pianist. The Seekers sold 50 million records with the new sound they fashioned out of the jazz and folk that ran in their veins.
Australia is a better place for the music of The Seekers, and for the life of Judith Durham.
